OVERVIEW

Word Cup is an annual Scrabble championship run by the CoCo and the Word Game Players' Organization (WGPO). This year’s Word Cup will take place in St. Louis, Missouri the week of August 2-6, 2025.


TOURNAMENT DETAILS

  • Location: St. Louis Union Station Hotel, 1820 Market St., St. Louis, MO 63103

  • Director: Evans Clinchy

  • Games: 31

  • Parameters: WESPA rules, CSW24 lexicon, 5 points per word challenged

  • Divisions: This tournament will feature two divisions. Division 1 is open to all players, with unlimited play-ups allowed. Division 2 is open only to players rated below 1600.

  • Prizes: Generous place and performance prizes will be awarded in both Collins divisions. There will be an additional $40,000 added to the prize pool courtesy of the Carter Chapman Shreve Family Foundation, split proportionally across the CSW and WOW divisions.

REGISTRATION

  • Main Event entry fee: $175 for adults; $85 for players under age 18. This fee increases by $50 after July 8. CoCo Premium Members can claim a $15 discount off the entry fee. You can learn about becoming a CoCo Premium Member here.

  • Early Bird entry fee: For adults who are CoCo Premium Members, $30. For all other adults, $45. Players under age 18, $15. You can learn more about the Early Bird here.

  • Registration deadline: July 18. No walk-ins.

  • Commuter fee: All players not staying at the hotel will be required to pay a $50 commuter fee.

  • Refunds: Full refunds (minus $5 to cover transaction costs) are available until July 30.

  • Newcomer Discounts Program: If this will be your very first Scrabble tournament or your first rated Collins tournament, check out the CoCo’s Newcomer Discounts program to claim 100% or 50% off your entry fee!

  • CoCo Scrabble Access Fund: You may be eligible to receive financial assistance to enter this tournament. The CoCo Scrabble Access Fund reduces barriers for players with limited financial means by giving them free Premium Memberships and free entry to tournaments. SCHEDULE & LOGISTICS

  • Main Event: 31 games from Saturday, August 2 through Wednesday, August 6, 2025. Players will play seven games on each of the first four days, then three games on the final day of the tournament. Games will begin at 9 a.m. each day.
