Announcing 3 new East Coast tournaments for fall 2022

We're now coming up on 1 year since we announced our reopening last summer, and it's been a successful one. We've run 10 tournaments so far, starting with a 3-day event on the Oregon Coast last Labor Day and most recently including a Minneapolis tourney last week. And we're not letting up, either - there's an action-packed second half of 2022 still to come.

Mostly, though, our successes have been confined to two main areas - the West Coast of the United States and the Midwest. If you're in the Washington/Oregon/California region, or the corridor spanning from Minnesota down to Texas, you've had plenty of options; it's otherwise been a bit tougher. We're working hard to change that!

And today, we're excited to announce: We're ramping up our presence on the East Coast in a major way. We're proud to unveil three new tournaments, run by three awesome new directors, in three new locations. I'm thrilled to welcome our three newest team members, and I can't wait to see what they do with these events.

Without further ado...

Brattleboro, VT

Dates: Oct. 1-2, 2022

Director: Mark Francillon

Mark's directorial debut should be a great one. Brattleboro is a charming little town in (IMO) America's most charming little state. Vermont in the fall is beautiful, and it's a reasonable drive for players all over the Northeast, ranging from Boston to Albany to New York City. There have been plenty of Scrabble events in Vermont over the years, but this will be a first - a 2-day, 16-game, CSW-only event in the Green Mountain State. I'm optimistic we can draw a strong field for this one, and that Mark's directing work will be top-notch.

Brooklyn, NY

Date: Oct. 22, 2022

Director: Mike McKenna

Mike is trying something a little different for his event. Rather than the usual CoCo tournament format - multiple days, tons of games, a hefty entry fee - he's going to run an affordable 1-day event that will hopefully be accessible to all kinds of players, including both top experts and relative novices. With a buy-in of just $35 and only one Saturday's worth of games, it should be easy for anyone to get in on the action. And the venue is Mike's home, so there are no overhead costs to worry about, and the ambience should be nice and cozy. (And what better locale than Brooklyn, hipster capital of the world, for an offbeat new tournament idea?)

Slingerlands, NY

Dates: Nov. 12-13, 2022

Director: Terry Kang

If you've ever been to one of Terry's tournaments before, you know that she doesn't mess around when it comes to hosting. She's been having tournaments at her home for years now, and she pulls out all the stops - nice accommodations, fantastic home-cooked meals, and she always seems to draw top-notch fields of Scrabblers. Terry now lives in Slingerlands, which is in upstate New York just a few minutes from Albany, and she's prepared to host players for the whole weekend in her new house. Come sling some tiles in Slingerlands!

With these three tournaments in the mix, it should be an exciting fall for CoCo Scrabble. We've got three good events, in good locations, with good people at the helm. I'm excited for all three of them - and, more broadly, I'm pumped to see the CoCo covering some new ground. There are lots of enthusiastic Scrabblers in the Northeastern U.S., and if you're one of them, I hope you'll be raring to go play these tournaments.

Not that we're stopping there. There are plenty more tournaments in the works, and we hope to roll them out soon. The future is bright, y'all. The future is bright.

But for now, you can head on over to our tournaments page and check out all the details on these three events, along with the nine others we've had on the calendar already. Find a tournament that appeals to you and sign up today.
