Recapping the first Texas CSW One-Day event

Top of the morning to you! We coronated our first ever Austin CSW One-Day champion. CoCo's tournament tools proved to be an absolute cup of tea for participants and director alike. Nary a sticky wicket was encountered on the day. Above, all 6 participants are shown making the same hand gesture, no doubt a token of respect to King Charles' spirit animal.

When the crumpets had crumbled, your humble narrator emerged unscathed, suspiciously winning all 6 games and the best British word award (which was in fact decided by the two Brits in attendance). The runner-up and Best Brit was area man James Curley. Chris Canik also put in a remarkable showing, given that he chose to participate on an hour's notice, attempted a phony two in his first game, and finally pipped third. Pay no attention to the masked man in the background.

A mysterious wizard appeared mid-tournament, evidently the new Potions teacher at a nearby institution of higher learning. He was also wearing an excellent hatinator in tribute to his mother country, and contributed an animal skull.

The unquestioned highlight was the War of the Wizards, where Mr. Potions (left) challenged Matt Canik, wearing the traditional robes of Gryffindor (right). With second place in the tourney on the line and regalias donned, the new Potions teacher prevailed.

Your trusty director was spoiled with plummy racks that made the day a walk through Hyde Park, even with subpar play. With ACORTW?, he found a fancy 78-point bonus through a B instead of one of two star 98-point options to the S on the star.

It's teatime here - keep calm and Scrabble on! We'll see everyone next month, possibly with a less ridiculous theme.
