Announcing CoCo virtual club sessions!

As 2020 draws to a close, we are nearing the end of our first year here at the Collins Coalition, and we're getting ready for a busy and exciting 2021. Although in-person events are still a faint light at the end of the pandemic tunnel, we will follow on the success of our virtual tournaments with - guess what? - more virtual tournaments and events.

On that note, we are extremely pleased to invite you to join us in our new endeavor: CoCo virtual club sessions, to be held twice a week on Woogles.io!

Huge thanks to the Woogles team for the fabulous new platform they have created this year. We are so grateful to partner with them - it's the perfect place for our community to gather for these club sessions.

Below are all the details. These are subject to change in the future, so be sure to check the CoCo club page for the latest information.

Who

Anyone who wishes to play CSW is welcome to join us, and we sincerely thank you for participating! There are no fees, no prizes, and no membership requirements at this time.

CoCo tournament directors will manage club sessions and maintain cumulative standings.

Where

Woogles is here: woogles.io/

The CoCo club page on Woogles is here: woogles.io/club/coco

If you haven't played on Woogles yet, be sure to set up your free account and try it out before you attend a club.

When

Pick one or both, whenever it works for your schedule. We're currently planning on holding 2 sessions per week:

  • Tuesdays (starting Dec. 29) at 6:30 p.m. Pacific / 8:30 p.m. Central / 9:30 p.m. Eastern

  • Saturdays (starting Jan. 2) at 11 a.m. Pacific / 1 p.m. Central / 2 p.m. Eastern

Please arrive in the club room at least 5 minutes early to get paired for Game 1.

If you're running late, that's OK! Just let the director know when you arrive in the club chat that you'd like to be paired for the next available game.

What Will Happen

  • We will play using the 2019 edition of the Collins Scrabble Words lexicon (CSW19).

  • Clocks will be set at 15 minutes with 1 minute of overtime.

  • The challenge rule will be 5-point challenge.

  • The club director will assign pairings for each round.

  • Each player may play up to 5 games. (You may leave early - just let the director know if you can't stay, so you can be taken out of the pairings for the next round.)

If you're used to in-person clubs, you might say, wait a minute, isn't 5 games a lot? It's actually not! It'll go about twice as fast as a typical in-person club, as we will use 15-minute clocks and Woogles handles all the pesky paperwork like tracking and scorekeeping.

We hope to see you at our upcoming club sessions, starting tomorrow night! If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at clubs@cocoscrabble.org. Otherwise, we'll see you on Woogles.
